Help and contact
Faux Appel is made by a very small team. Messages go straight to the person who writes the app, and they are what decides what comes next.
Write to us
Email [email protected]. We reply within 72 hours. For a technical problem, please include your device model, your system version and, if you can, a screenshot: it saves a round trip.
You can also write from inside the app: the link at the bottom of the home screen that offers to hear about an idea or a problem opens a message page. It arrives in the same place, with the app version already filled in.
Frequently asked questions
The call did not ring. Why?
The call is triggered by your own phone: anything that stops your phone from ringing stops the app from working. Check that notifications are allowed for Faux Appel, that the phone was neither in aeroplane mode nor in a focus mode, that the battery was not empty and that the low power mode was not on. If the app showed you a warning when you scheduled the call, that warning was about exactly this. See also the disclaimer.
Is a real call made? Is anyone notified?
No. No telephone call is made or received, no number is dialled, nothing appears on your carrier bill and no one is alerted. The call is produced by your device, for you alone.
How do I change the name shown on the call screen?
On the home screen, tap the character, then Rename. The name you enter is the one that will appear on the call screen. You can go back to the original name at any time.
Why does the app ask for the microphone?
For two reasons. First, because a call goes through the same audio session as a real one: the system requires it in order to show a call screen. Second, to record the voice of someone you choose to add. Apart from those recordings, which you start yourself, nothing is recorded and nothing is sent.
How do I add someone with their photo and their voice?
From the home screen, tap Add, give a name, choose a photo and record one or more messages. Everything stays on your phone. Ask the person first: their voice and their image are theirs, and recording them without their knowledge is a criminal offence.
How do I schedule a call at an exact time?
Choose the character and the reason, then set the moment. Beyond the short delays, picking an exact time and having several calls waiting are part of the Faux Appel Premium subscription.
I changed phone. How do I get my subscription back?
Install the app, open the subscription screen and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple or Google account used for the purchase. The characters, names, photos and recordings, however, were on the old device: they do not transfer, except through your phone backup.
Does the app work offline?
Partly. Without a connection at the moment you schedule the call, the relay that makes the phone ring with the app closed cannot be armed: the call will only ring if you leave the app open. The app says so clearly on screen.
Managing or cancelling the subscription
The subscription is managed from your store account, not from the app:
- iPhone and iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions, or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions
- Android: Google Play app › your profile › Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions, or play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for. For a refund on iPhone, go through reportaproblem.apple.com: Apple collects the payment and issues the refund. On Android, send the request to Google Play or write to us.
Deleting my data
Faux Appel works without an account, so there is no account to delete. Your data comes in two kinds.
On your phone are the first name you entered, your settings, the characters and their names, the photos and recordings you added, the scheduled calls and the history. You erase all of it in a single action, from Settings › Delete my data in the app, or by uninstalling it. It is immediate and final, and it requires no request from you.
On our servers all that remains is a randomly generated call identifier, the scheduled time and the device's notification token, which are erased automatically 48 hours after the call, along with counters attached to a technical fingerprint. Neither your name, nor the character, nor the reason appears there. If you have sent a message from the app and would like it erased before its two-year term, write to us with its date and content: [email protected]. The details are in the privacy policy.
Reporting a problem or a misuse
A bug, a badly translated string, a voice that does not play: write to us, these messages are read one by one.
If you believe someone is using the app to deceive, harass or harm you, report it to the same address. Bear in mind that the publisher has access neither to the content of the calls nor to the recordings, which never leave the user's device. Depending on how serious it is, the effective route is a complaint to the police, or an emergency number if you are in danger.
